Monroe County Dems Get Ready for the General Election

Now that the February 2 primary election is over, the Monroe County Democratic Party is getting ready for the November general election.

In the primary election, State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias easily won Monroe County. He also won statewide to become the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in the November general election. He will face Republican Mark Kirk in what has been called this year’s most-watched U.S. Senate race in the nation.

Local Democrats Announce New Website

The Monroe County Democratic Party has announced the launch of its new website. The site contains information about the local party, upcoming events, Democratic officeholders, voting information, links to other Democratic websites, and ways to sign up to stay informed about events and become involved.  The web address is www.monroecountydemocrats.com.

Annual Democrat Dinner a Resounding Success

The Monroe County Democratic Party held its annual dinner and silent auction on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Turner Hall in Columbia. The event was a resounding success and broke all previous attendance records. More than 520 people attended this year’s dinner. This exceeded the attendance records for previous Monroe County Democrat dinners which have all been well-attended.  In addition to breaking all previous attendance records, the 2009 dinner broke all previous fundraising records compared to past dinners.
