The Monroe County, Illinois Democratic Party welcomes you to our website. We hope this site provides helpful information about our local Democratic Party and other Democratic organizations and county government offices.
These have been an exciting few years for the Monroe County Democratic Party. Our county has traditionally been thought of as a Republican county. However, with the hard work and dedication of many people, that has been changing.
In 2006, the Democratic candidate for Governor won here for the first time since 1972. In the 2008 primary election more people voted Democrat ballots than Republican resulting in a 182% increase in Democratic votes from six years before; by far the highest of any county in Southern Illinois during the same period.
In the 2008 general election, the Democratic candidate for the Monroe County Board defeated the incumbent Republican County Board chairman creating the first Democratic majority on the County Board in 25 years!
We have many opportunities for people interested in helping our local Democratic Party by volunteering [1], joining the Monroe County Democrat Club [2], becoming a precinct committeeperson [3], or by donating [4] on a one-time or continuing basis.
We hope you enjoy the site and we look forward to working with you in the future.
Sincerely,

Alan Pirtle
Chairman,
Monroe County Democratic Party
