Universal Health Care and Employee Free Choice Act Topics at July Club Meeting

Labor leader Bill Thurston speaks to the Monroe County Democratic Club July 14 in Waterloo.  Thurston, president of the Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council of the AFL-CIO, discussed issues important to labor.  He cited universal health care and the proposed Employee Free Choice Act as key concerns. Speaking with Thurston were Ty Becker, a field representative of the Member Assistance Program of the Illinois AFL-CIO, and Terry Knoth, senior representative, labor participation, of the United Way. Over 50 members of the Democratic Club attended the meeting, which was preceded by a barbecue.

The club holds its meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesdays of the month at the Waterloo VFW.  New members are welcome.
